About
Us
The Kankakee Area Stargazers
(KASG) is your local astronomy group. We currently
have about 48 members of all ages with different
experience levels in astronomy. Some of our members
haven’t bought a telescope yet, so don’t
feel intimidated. We want everyone to enjoy the
night sky. Our mission is to help others learn
the night sky and share our experiences with the
public. Our club meets the first Saturday of every
month, at the Strickler Planetarium on the campus
of Olivet Nazarene University, in Bourbonnais,
Illinois at 10 a.m. Meetings discuss using your
telescope, use of setting circles, star hopping,
constellations, star names, satellite observing,
moon phases, deep sky observing, astrophotography
and astroimaging, map and chart reading, and much
more. We have speakers every other month or so
with talks on every subject under the stars. Our
club grew out of a common interest in the night
sky. An organizational meeting was held, officers
elected, and we began under the leadership of
Steve Bell and Brock Schroeder in 2001.
